Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) provides grants to develop and implement outreach strategies targeted at, and provide victim services to, underserved populations of adult and youth victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

In September 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women awarded the Women’s Center at the University of Idaho almost $300,000 to fund the Campus Violence Prevention Project. The grant award is funding efforts to engage the campus, community and statewide organizations in developing and implementing culturally competent, community responsive prevention education programming and victim services at U of I. OFFICE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (OVW). The Program encourages the development and implementation of effective,.

Program purpose areas include:

  • Working with federal, state, tribal, territorial, and local governments, agencies, and organizations to develop or enhance population specific services
  • Strengthening the capacity of underserved populations to provide population specific services
  • Strengthening the capacity of traditional victim service providers to provide population specific services
  • Strengthening the effectiveness of criminal and civil justice interventions by providing training for law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and other court personnel on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking in underserved populations
  • Working in cooperation with an underserved population to develop and implement outreach, education, prevention, and intervention strategies that highlight available resources and the specific issues faced by victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking from underserved populations.

Special consideration will be given to projects that:

  • Reduce violent crime against women and promote victim safety through investing in law enforcement, increasing prosecution, and promoting effective prevention
  • Empower victims to become survivors by growing them past their vulnerabilities to a place of self-sufficiency
  • Increase efforts to combat stalking
  • Address the specific challenges that rural communities face in responding to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations that are population specific organizations or victim service providers.
